random alley in North Park - Kim Curran San Diego child photographer

A few weeks ago the family & I were leaving a Bird Park summer concert. We tucked into an alley off of Redwood to avoid some traffic. What should I see but a chrome garage door with a Hindu-like painting on it. "That would make a great location for a photo session." I exclaimed to the family. No one acknowledged my comment. This was not the first time they have heard this statement from me. We drove on. The next door was great too! Old & wooden with chipped blue paint, perfect texture. Then a brick wall, very "in" at the moment. Then a picket fence with a vining, flowering plant, are you kidding me?! I had found Photo Shoot Heaven right there in a random alley in North Park, just a mile or so from my house. I could hardly wait to return!
So I gathered up what I needed;  couple of unique chairs, a few hats & 2 adorable kidlets. We were off.
We spent most of our time at the painted garage for a few reasons. 1) it was working & 2) motivating my cute little subjects/child labor to carry the chairs down the alley was not going so well.

I liked this in black & white. What do you think?

We did make it to the blue door

Sugar & Spice- kim curran, san diego newborn photographer

This is Baby Carys, the newest addition to the Nash family. This was the third time that I have had the pleasure of working with this family. The first two shoots were lots of laughs and included three generations. This shoot was different, it was just baby & me...well, mom was close by.
a double chin never looked so sweet...

are you an angel? you could be....

Here is a note from a friend of mine, Janet O'Leary. She's a saint. Are you an angel?
"I recently joined a triathlon group "Tri n for a Cause" in order to raise money for the babies and toddlers in San Diego that desperately need a foster home.

Jim and I became certified foster parents a few years ago with the Angels Foster Family Network and it really opened our eyes to the number of local children that are abandoned, neglected and abused. It was shocking to see what some children had endured during their young lives. After being placed in the foster system most of these children would bounce from home to home and never find their forever family. They deserve better than that.
Angels Foster Network aims to place one child in one loving home with committed foster parents, resulting in successful bonding and healthy development.

As a group, we are taking part in two triathlons and have pledged to raise $20,000.00 that will go directly to Angels, to help them recruit and train more foster families for these precious babies.

Can you help me? Our deadline for fundraising is August 21st!

Please click on the link to see my fundraising page and read my story: http://www.stayclassy.org/fundraise?fcid=116718
Any amount, small or large is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Janet"

Grand Canyon: scenes from the north rim

To state the obvious, I'm a portrait photographer...I photograph people, faces. I like faces. I don't even own a wide angle lens. When it came time for our family trip to the Grand Canyon, I, like every other visitor there, became a landscape photographer.

I  wanted to get closer to the bison, but I was making Richard nervous.
"buffalo & bison....bison & buffalo"
such an awesome place.

Pleasant Surprise- kim curran, award winning photographer

I returned home last night, after a 5 day trip to the Grand Canyon with the family, to find a check for me in the mail. I had entered 2 images in the San Diego County Fair. I was already aware that one image was awarded 4th place in its category and the other received an honorable mention. I was quite pleased with that. I was unaware that along with the 4th place ribbon came a $125 check!
What a pleasant surprise.
