just to make you smile...

Jack loves to dance! The audio is bad but if you listen closely, you can hear that he is dancing to kidz bop version of Pink's "Get the Party Started". Don't judge him.  Can I tell you a secret?...Pink is a guilty pleasure of mine, don't laugh! Have you ever heard "Glitter in the Air"?  Check it out, you might just be a closet Pink fan too. I won't tell........
BTW don't you think Isabelle would have made a terrific Robert Palmer girl?

Shootin' Music - Kim Curran San Diego Photographer

I love to see/hear live music, who doesn't?  This has been a phenomenal week!  Richard & I got out to see three shows.  Three sitters in one week; that is unheard of for the Currans. Three sitters in six months is more our pace.

We started out Monday at Humphrey's with Chris Isaak.  I love him and Humphrey's is one of San Diego's best venues.  Chris puts on such a wonderful show.  I have seen him 4 or 5 times now and I aways leave filled with joy and looking forward to our next meeting.  If you are not familiar with Chris, do yourself a favor & download some of his music.  He's timeless. I love him...oh, I said that already.  Check him out here doing Roy Orbison.
No, I did not get to photograph Chris, maybe next year...

On Wednesday, with camera in hand, we headed out to see Fitz & the Tantrums at Birch Aquarium Green Flash Concert Series.  This spectacular venue sits atop the cliffs of La Jolla overlooking the Pacific. The stage is set up over a tide pool. Fitz & the Tantrums (FATT) have had quite a year and, after seeing them live, I don't think they are slowing down anytime soon. This band has a bit of a retro-funk, Motown sound.  Front man, Michael Fitzpatrick with his David Byrne-isque moves, & beauty Noelle Scaggs interact energetically to put on a fantastically entertaining show.

Then last night we headed out to Bernardo Winery for a KPRI private listener concert featuring Lissie. I have heard 2 of her songs on SiriusXM, the Spectrum & really liked them both so I was quite excite to get to see & photographer her up close. She did not disappoint, I am a huge Lissie fan now. She is a pretty & feminine, tough & rockin' chick with a bright future!!!

check her out here

In closing I must tell you I am not a music critic, nor do I wish to be one,
but I will say this....
shootin' music is sooo much fun !!!

Do I have a Studio??? Kim Curran san diego photographer

No, for a few reasons, I do not.....maybe someday.

I live in San Diego where on any given day it is 72 & partly cloudy. In fact, I believe to be a weather person here, you must graduate at the bottom of your class, no offense intended.
I have a variety of locations from which to chose. The beach, Balboa Park, down town or just some alley will work. The first thing I look at is the light. If I have the lighting I desire, I can get a shot almost anywhere. If I do not like the background I have, I can use a lens with a wide aperture (click on this link for a quick lesson). This will create a shallow dept of field, leaving me with a blurry, creamy background that I just love.

isn't she pretty?

Lastly, I just don't need much space to get "the shot". A perfect example is my friend turned client Jennifer Caltabellotta. Her kids are school age so she decided to begin working with her husband, Joe, in real estate. She needed a head shot. I went to her home & this is what we got.

Jennifer has pets. This is what was going on around us.
Jennifer has as "fun things to do in San Diego" page
be sure to "like" it

Art Around the World & happy 4th! Kim Curran

I was notified this morning by art around the world that the image I submitted was accepted and published on their site.
This is a portrait of Eli. In May I was busy photographing students at my daughter's school in efforts to raise funds to support the Art program. I'll be posting more on that soon.
If you like this image, please do me a favor & click on the link, then scroll down to vote. It is my understanding that the contest has a panel of judges that make the final decision, but online votes can only increase my chances, right? ...& comfort my frail artist ego:)

I'd like to wish all of you a Happy 4th! I'm not much of a writer, never have been (guess I'm more of a visual person, huh?), so I'm going to share with you someone who is. Treat yourself & take a look at Michelle Zive's blog. She has a wonderful 4th of July message. You won't be disappointed.
